At Kiawah Island Luxury Rentals, we live here, work here, and welcome guests here every week. We have walked these beaches at sunrise, watched dolphins ride the tide at Captain Sam’s Inlet, and helped families fall in love with this place again and again. So when guests ask us about the best Kiawah Island attractions, we share the spots we genuinely love.
This guide covers the beaches, golf courses, parks, dining, and nature experiences that make Kiawah Island feel like a small slice of paradise. Whether you are visiting for a long weekend or planning a full week with the family, these are the places we recommend first.
Beaches and the Coast
The beach is the heart of Kiawah Island. Most of the shoreline is reserved for residents and resort guests, which is part of why it stays so peaceful and clean. If you are renting one of our homes, you have direct access through private boardwalks within easy walking or biking distance.
Kiawah Beachwalker Park
Beachwalker Park is the only public beach access on the island, and it sits at the western tip near Captain Sam’s Inlet. The combination of wide Atlantic sand and the calmer waters of the Kiawah River makes it especially good for families. We often send first time visitors here because it has restrooms, outdoor showers, lifeguards in season, chair and umbrella rentals, and a small snack bar.
Guests consistently mention how clean the beach is and how often dolphins appear close to shore. The parking lot is small and fills quickly, so we recommend arriving before 10 AM on weekends.

Did you know? Kiawah’s beach has been recognized as one of the top beaches in the United States by Travel and Leisure and Condé Nast Traveler. For a deeper look at every beach access point, see our local guide to Kiawah Island South Carolina beaches.
World Class Golf on Kiawah Island
Few places in the country have built such a strong golf reputation. Kiawah Island is home to five championship courses, four on the island and one just across the bridge on Johns Island. Each has its own personality, and even non-golfers love to ride along for the wildlife and the views.
The Ocean Course
The Ocean Course is the most famous of all the Kiawah Island SC attractions. Designed by Pete Dye, it hosted the PGA Championship in 2012 and 2021 and has the most seaside holes of any course in the northern hemisphere. We have guests who plan their entire trip around playing it.
It is challenging, especially when the wind comes off the Atlantic, but the visuals are unforgettable. Guests rave about the caddie program, the pristine practice greens along the dunes, and the Ryder Cup Bar overlooking the 18th hole.

Turtle Point Golf Course
Turtle Point is a Jack Nicklaus design, and it has the only stretch of holes on the island (14, 15, and 16) that runs directly along the Atlantic. We send a lot of golfers here who want big oceanfront moments without the intensity of the Ocean Course.
The fairways are wide enough to be enjoyable, the greens roll true, and the snack shop has surprisingly good chicken salad sandwiches that guests keep mentioning.

Osprey Point Golf Course
Osprey Point is a Tom Fazio design that weaves through saltwater marshes, lakes, and tall pines. It plays a bit shorter and friendlier than the Ocean Course, which makes it a favorite for couples and mixed groups. The clubhouse, called Cherrywood BBQ, is one of the better lunch stops on the island.

Cougar Point Golf Course
Cougar Point sits along the marsh on the south end of the island. It is the most playable of the four island courses, with shorter yardages and forgiving fairways. We often suggest it for guests who want to enjoy the scenery, sneak in a quick round, and still have time for the beach.

Nature, Parks, and Wildlife
A big part of what makes Kiawah Island special is how much wild beauty is preserved across the island. Alligators sun themselves beside lagoons, deer wander between live oaks, and ospreys nest in the tall pines. You do not need to travel far to feel like you are deep in the Lowcountry.
Marsh Island Park and View Tower
Hidden inside the Vanderhorst Plantation gates, Marsh Island Park is one of those quiet, easy-to-miss spots that we love to share with guests. A short boardwalk leads out across the marsh to a tall observation tower, perfect for spotting herons, egrets, ospreys, and the occasional alligator.
It is best reached by bike. The setting is peaceful, and you will likely have it almost to yourselves.

Quick insight: the island has more than 30 miles of paved bike paths that connect every park, beach access, and neighborhood. We tell our guests that bikes are the unofficial currency of Kiawah. You will see far more by pedal than by car.
Mingo Point
Mingo Point sits along the banks of the Kiawah River, a short bike ride from most homes. It hosts the famous Monday night Oyster Roast and BBQ in summer and on holiday weeks, with fresh oysters cooked over open fire, live music, and a craft market. Even outside of event nights, the dock is one of the best sunset views on the island.

Tennis, Wellness, and the Resort Core
Kiawah is consistently ranked one of the top tennis destinations in the world, and there is a whole quiet wellness side of the island that often surprises first time guests.
Roy Barth Tennis Center
Named after the resort’s longtime tennis director, the Roy Barth Tennis Center features a mix of hard and clay courts and one of the strongest pickleball setups on the East Coast. Lessons, daily clinics, and adult drill sessions are open to resort guests, and the staff is well known for being patient with all levels.

Shopping and Dining Beyond the Beach
Kiawah is small, but the dining and shopping scene around the island is one of the highlights. Most of it sits in one walkable village just outside the main gate.
Freshfields Village
Freshfields Village is the lifestyle center of Kiawah and Seabrook. It blends boutique shops, a Harris Teeter grocery store, casual restaurants, and an outdoor green where they host live music, holiday festivals, and weekend movies. We tell almost every guest to stop here on day one to provision for the week.
